What to Expect
The assessment process is designed to be as supportive and straightforward as possible.
1) Initial Contact: Get in touch to discuss your assessment requirements. This is your opportunity to talk through concerns, as questions and to make sure a dyslexia assessment is right for you/your child.
2) Assessment Preparation: Once a date for an assessment has been agreed, background information will be collected from home and, where possible/appropriate, from school to help build a full picture of strengths, challenges and learning history.
3) Assessment: The dyslexia assessment is carried out either at school or at home. This takes around 2.5 hours and involves the completion of a range of cognitive and academic tasks.
4) Assessment Report: A detailed report is written and shared, within 3 weeks of the assessment. The report will clearly explain the assessment outcomes, the diagnosis and lots of practical recommendations for support. This might include recommendations for exam arrangements but please note that implementation of these recommendations it at each school’s discretion.
5) Feedback & Next Steps: Feedback meetings can be arranged with parents, school staff or other professionals, as required. This ensures that the results of the assessment are fully understood and that appropriate support can be put in place.
